What Do You Mentally Weigh?

I spoke with 2 different people this week and both of these men were telling me about injustices they had experienced in the past and how they hated the person, going on and on about how rotten they were and they can’t stand to think of them. And, one incident happened 30 years ago in high school no less and the other 10 years ago. Now that is what I call holding onto negative energy that does absolutely nothing but weigh you down. It keeps you locked prisoner in a self-inflicted torture chamber by holding onto animosity, anger and hatred....

The Art of Happiness

What is happiness? What makes you happy? What makes one person happy may be unimportant to the next. And, the degrees of happiness vary from simple contentment to being overjoyed. There are many categories in which we experience happiness from health, wealth, spirituality, being in shape, family, friends, career, food, vacations, material possessions, music, giving, receiving, listening, being heard and on and on. Many people decide that they will be happy WHEN something happens, i.e. when they get the new house, when they get married, when they meet someone, when they retire, when they find another job, when they take...

You Are What You Think

Just as, “You are what you eat,” it’s the same with what you think about. Your thoughts can make you or break you, they can build you up or tear you down, they can make you feel happy or sad, positive or negative, they strengthen you or make you weak. They are the foundation of how you experience your life. So many people believe it’s their circumstances that cause them to feel a certain way. Granted, during the onset of any event that rocks your world the actual situation will impact how you feel, but only until you get your...

Do You Want to Know Why?

The number one question I get more than anything else or some variation of it is: “Why?” Why did this happen to me? Why am I going through this? Why did they do this to me? Why did God do this to me? Why don’t they love me? Why did they leave me? And on and on. The reasons why people do what they do are wide and deep. Just look at all of the books written on mental and psychological disorders, criminal profiling, narcissism, sociopaths etc. People spend years studying why people do what they do. Then there are...

Response from Misplaced Anger

For some reason my last blog came up with nowhere to reply and leave comments. It’s weird! Anyway, you can reply to me at: susan@susanrusso.com And by the way, I did hear back from my response to this person and she actually took the advice to heart and is well on her way to a much better place! Sorry about the inconvenience…Susan I receive emails from people around the world and from different cultures. This morning I spent my time responding instead of blogging. So I am going to paste my response to this anonymous person below. We all go...

Misplaced Anger

I receive emails from people around the world and from different cultures. This morning I spent my time responding instead of blogging. So I am going to paste my response to this anonymous person below. We all go through pain, anger, frustration and heartache so make sure you have an acceptable outlet for your emotions. My response: I just replied to you and for some reason it just disappeared so I have to start over again. Thank you for the kind words I am happy my blogs help you. Of course it is normal to feel many different emotions when...

What Do You See?

No matter what is going on in your life, no matter what your circumstances, no matter who or what you think you can’t live with or without and no matter who did what to you, depending on how you choose to view what happens to you in life will be how you will experience it. How you choose to see things regarding any situation, whether you choose to stay angry, scared, worried, jealous, mad, glad, happy, sad, have no faith, if you stop believing, if you long for the answer to “why” things happened like they did and on and...

Complaining is a Habit

Do you ever complain? Or, should I ask, how many times a day do you complain and what is it that you complain about? It becomes such a habit that most of the time we just complain on auto-pilot. And, on top of that many times what we complain about is a blessing in disguise. Now granted there are some things in life that are normal to complain about like people who don’t know how to drive! (Tongue in cheek) Have you ever caught yourself complaining about the guy who cut you off or who didn’t make the light? Do...

When Fear, Doubt and Worry Overshadow Faith

What are you worried about? What circumstances are you afraid might or might not happen? What do you want in your life so much but deep down you don’t believe it will ever really come to pass? What is it that keeps you up at night or consumes your thoughts during the day? Ask yourself if how you feel most of the day leaves you emotionally drained and mentally fatigued or do you walk around with a light heart, full of hope and, are you expecting good things to happen? Depending on your answers to the above questions, they will...

When You Can't Hear What People Are Saying

Have you ever asked someone for advice? Most times you probably ask a couple of people; your closest friends or family members too. And, you will typically hear similar versions of the same sentiment of what they would do in your situation, along with an occasional departure from someone whose advice beats to a different drummer. So there you are advice in hand, deciding what to do and lo and behold you end up doing what you wanted to do anyway or you do nothing at all. Now, what does that say to you? What it says to me is...
