Stop Saying That!

I could give you a thousand examples of what I hear people saying over and over again that gets them in trouble and keeps them stuck in the cycle of going nowhere fast.

I bet if you took a day to listen to what people say about themselves or their life, you wouldn’t be so surprised to see how their life corresponds with their words.

No matter what they are experiencing in life a lot of it has to do with what they keep saying to themselves.

Whether you are happy or sad – Lonely or content – Fit or fat- Motivated or lazy – In debt or not – Rich or poor – Worried or at peace….and the list goes on – it all comes down to one thing; what you tell yourself about yourself and your life.

It’s like an internal brainwashing. You actually end up convincing yourself that you’re right because of those very words repeated 100 times a day.

And, what really sucks is that most of the time you aren’t even aware that you’re thinking them because they just become apart of your inner dialogue that goes unnoticed.

We actually think some 60,000 thoughts a day that we are barely aware of. It’s these old beliefs and garbage we feed ourselves that somewhere along the line we decided to carry with us and it ends up being apart of who we become.

But, do you know that you can stop saying these things to yourself? Did you know that you are the captain of your ship and you are the only one that can steer your mind in any direction you choose?

Stop for a minute and examine what it is you tell yourself about who you are, about your life and how you got where you are and about what your life will or will not be. You may be surprised to know that it’s you (the words and thoughts you choose) that is causing you most of your misery.

I find it very interesting that 99% of the people I talk to can see the future. They all have crystal balls! They tell me things like: I will never meet anyone again. My life is over. I’ll never have the marriage I wanted. I’ll never find a good guy. I’ll never be successful. I’ll never get out of this mess. Wow….I’d be depressed too if that is what I thought was ahead of me.

They are so sure that there is no way out and are clueless that they are holding the key that can unlock the door that will set them free.

All you have to do is change the things you say to yourself. Change the script. Start saying the opposite. Even if you don’t believe it yet. Start saying it anyway. If you continually tell yourself that you are happy, that everyday in every way you are getting better and that no matter what happens you will survive. Soon you will start to feel different about things.

I know some of you may not buy into this program, but the program you did buy into; telling yourself all of the negative crap you do, well, how is that working out for you?

Some of the greatest philosophers and thinkers of are time have given us wisdom throughout history, if we would only heed their advice.

“A man is what he thinks about all day long.” – Ralph Waldo Emerson

“As a man thinketh in his heart, so is he.” -Proverbs 23:7

“There is nothing either good or bad but thinking makes it so.” -William Shakespeare

“The mind is it’s own place and in itself, can make a Heaven of Hell, a Hell of Heaven.” -John Milton

So tell me, what is it that you keep saying to yourself?
